Montane Rucksacks

Sometimes when a manufacturer launches a new range of products in an area where they have no previous experience you know that there is going to be a few years before they get it right. However, in the case of Montane and their current and expanding range of rucksacks, bumbags and backpacks they have really hit the ground running.

In autumn 2012 Montane released the Batpack 6, Anaconda 18, Cobra 25 and Medusa 32 and the interest in them was immediate both from the Outdoor Press and customers. The products themselves look great, are awesomely comfortable and have lots of design features and advances that have really shaken up the rucksack world.

New for spring/summer 2013 are the obvious gap fillers: Montane Torque 40, Grand Tour 55 and Ultra Tour 22. Each of these follows on from the previous seasons models in that they use;

the moulded MONTANE® Comfort Back Pad (very comfy and features channels that wick sweat and rainwater away from the body and give additional ventilation),

CONTACT Mesh on shoulder straps, hip belt and back pad (wicking with a soft feel that is kind against waterproof and other clothing) and

Raptor fabrics which have a very high durability and tear strength for weight.

The Montane Torque 40 is a classic mountain and climbing pack that features a removable hip harness and bivvy mat and has a list of features that combine to keep the pack clean and simple but ultimately useful. Get one for your summer cragging, winter climbing and Alpine mountaineering needs.

The Grand Tour 55 is a lightweight backpacking backpack that has enough capacity for almost any lightweight multiday adventure, with a hugely comfy carry to boot. It comes in at under 1.3kg and can be pared down to only 1.1kg by the removal of the mouldable back system.

The Ultra Tour 22 is a trail and fell running pack that is ideal for mountain marathons, ultra distance day hiking and trekking and would work well as as a summit day pack for Alpine adventures. It features a roll top with stretch mesh external pockets for ease of access to all areas.
