A cross between Metolius Master Cams and Black Diamond Camalot C4 camming devices the Black Diamond Camalot X4 is designed for use in peg scars and other shallow and slim cracks.

This flexible single-stemmed camming device has a narrow head width (30 to 38mm) throughout the range but comes in two designs depending on the size. The smallest three sizes have Black Diamonds Stacked Axle Technology which uses a uniquely machined axle to give more expansion range than any similar sized four-cam unit. The larger sizes have twin axles like standard Camalots for greater expansion range. This large expansion range means that the six sizes of the Camalot X4 cover the same range as eight sizes of other comparable units.

A clever feature of the X4 are the super-durable aluminum protection beads which protect the flexible stem when bending over an edge without reducing the flex of the stem which mean the cams will be loaded as appropriately as possible whatever the placement.

Seal of Approval Black Diamond Camalot X4 Review: I call the X4 .1 my secret weapon. Think of all those times where you have been trying to fiddle size 1 nuts in parallel sided cracks or where there have been lots of hard to get to placements but some nearby irregularites that just won't take a small / micro wire. Well this device seems to fit these placements really securely and can make getting through a crux section that bit quicker or those run outs where you can't stop for long that bit safer. I love these devices, easy to place and remove and they just feel bomber for such a small bit of kit.

  • Stacked Axle Technology (.3, .2 and .1)
  • Double axle (.75, .5 and .4)
  • Narrower head width than original Camalot
  • Aluminum armor beads protect cable stem without compromising flexibility
  • Symmetric swage and hot-forged trigger bar eliminate buckling and provide ergonomic handling
  • Lightweight Dyneema sling
