Inov8 X-Talon Ultra 260

This ultra distance trail running shoe has an aggressive tread suited to softer terrain but with good support and cushioning that allows it to cover almost all terrain types making it a shoe thats ideal for everything that a race like the Dragons Back will throw at you. Having said that with a clever combination of materials and design it works really well as an allround fellshoe for shorter races and training as well. Compared to its much loved and vaunted predecessor the X-Claw 275 many features and components have been retained or slightly refined and tweaked, so fans of that shoe don't need to panic, but the lower weight gained mainly from the updated rand materials will be appreiated by all. The concept of keeping water out for as long as possible without recourse to a membrane is retained, as are the DUAL-C compound (a mix of medium and hard sticky rubbers) for improved durability and stability, POWERFLOW midsole technology which delivers 10% better shock absorption and 15% better energy return than standard midsoles and Dynamic Fascia Band which delivers kick of energy with every stride. The wide forefoot fit combined with a snug heal will suit the classic South Wales foot shape and many ultra -runners whose feet have naturally spread.

Our Chris can't wait to put this shoe through its paces: "My favourite shoe for serious off-road running has been the Inov8 X-Claw 275 for the past couple of seasons. Many of the features of the X-Claw 275 are used in the new X-Talon Ultra 260 but it is 15g lighter and has an even stickier rubber called Sticky Grip for the outsole compound which gives amazing traction on a huge variety of terrains from peat bogs and stinking muddy fields, through to super dry and dusty hillside paths. It also works on harder rock and those annoying tarmac sections as the lugs deflect slightly to provide some shock absorption, whilst the POWERFLOW midsole provides excellent shock absorption and energy return compared to many midsoles I've tried. This is particularly appreciated on longer mixed terrain runs where you need a bit of extra support and protection as the miles clock up. The fit is wide which is ideal for my feet and for most ultra -distance runners who either have wide feet or need space for expansion during an event. Unlike some wider fitting Inov8 shoes the fit around the ankle is snug and supportive.
