The
Wilderness Systems Tarpon 120 is a single seat
sit on
top kayak that is ideal for carrying up to 159kg. It is perfect for
kayak
angling as its easily upgraded and its also great for
river exploration.Wilderness Systems have designed the
Tarpon 120
to be great for
coastal exploration, longer
river cruises and
canal exploration. It
is also a very popular choice for
kayak angling. With all of these in mind they
have packed it with features that make it easy and convenient to paddle and
very
safe to use. The first major feature was that they developed with the
Tarpon 120 with a
self bailing cockpit system. This relies on water draining
out of the moulded in
scupper drains. This system helps to give new comers to
the world of
paddle sport a great feeling of safety, as in the event of a
capsize they can easily turn the
sit on top kayak back over and any water
within the
cockpit area will easily drain out.
They have then packed the
Tarpon kayak with lots of features that make it easy
to man handle to and fro from the water, they have also included lots of potential
storage. Located on the front and rear of the sit on top there are
kayak carry handles. It also features side
carry handles. The side handles really do help
to get it on and off the car roof rack with ease. The other added bonus of the
moulded in
scupper drain holes is that they work very well with the
Ecklasit
on top trolley and also the
sea to summit sit on top cart, as both of these
trolleys rely on the vertical arms that locate through the
scupper holes. Once out
on the water to ensure you are able to take all the gear that is required, as there
is lots of storage. The first of these in the large front oval
Orbix hatch,
there is then a second 8" round
Orbix hatch located in the centre of the
boat just between the
paddlers knees. The final main storage area is located at
the rear of the
kayak and this is in the form of a tankwell. This is perfect
for the storage of a dry bag such as the
Palm River Trek.
It is highly important that when out
kayaking for a long time the
paddler has
good levels of comfort. This has most certainly been fulfilled with the
Tarpon
120. The main seat unit incorporates a highly padded seat and backrest unit.
Both of these units are then adjustable. The back rest is easily adjusted in height to give or reduce support, while the front of the seat unit can also be
increased in height to give more or less support to the thighs. Further support
to the paddler is achieved by the addition of a set of
Keepers footbraces.
