Running waterproofs tend to be extremely lightweight. This is important as the more weight you are carrying the more energy you will use and the more quickly you will fatigue. It is also important that they are very breathable as you will be working at high levels of intensity and therefore generating a lot of heat and perspiration… it’s no use keeping the rain out if you’re going to get drenched with sweat anyway!
This comes at the sacrifice of durability but unlike walking and mountaineeringjackets the stress on the jacket it generally lower as you are not carrying heavy packs or dragging the garment up rock and ice.
Also for many people these jackets are used as an emergency piece or for when stationary in order to block out wind and rain. As they are so light and packable they can sit in the bottom of a small pack until needed.Established in 1977
