If you're looking to put together your own SRT kit, we would recommend at least the following:
1x Sit Harness - Examples of these include the Petzl Aven and Petzl Superavanti. |
1x Chest Harness |
1x Central D-Ring - Either a Semi-Circular Maillon or the Petzl Omni. |
1x Chest Ascender - The Petzl Croll is perhaps the most commonly used chest ascender, however other products such as the CT Chest Ascender+ and the Camp Turbochest are available. |
1x Hand Ascender - You can get either a Handled or a Non-Handled Hand Jammer. Handled Jammers provide an advantage whilst hauling, however offer no advantage over Non-Handled Jammers in normal use. |
1x Descender - Typically either a Petzl Simple or a Petzl Stop is used. The Stop comes with an assisted braking lever, however this lever does not compensate for good technique when needing to lock-off. |
1x Braking Carabiner - This is typically a steel carabiner which is attached to the carabiner connecting the descender to the Central D-Ring. Other alternatives exist however such as the Petzl Freino or the Raumer Handy. |
1x Set of Cowstails - This is made up of roughly 2.5-3m of Dynamic rope, which has been rated as a single rope. |
1x Footloop - Usually made from static rope, the length depends on the users height, as well as their preferance for either a single or double foot loop. Alternatively the Petzl Footape can be used. This is a loop of webbing that can be adjusted to the correct height for the user. |
2x Offset D Carabiners - These are used for the ends of the Cowstails. You can choose between either snapgates or screwgates, however autolockers may not be the best choice here. |
2x Oval Carabiners - One of these is used for connecting your Descender to your Central D-Ring, the other is used to attach your Hand Jammer to your Footloop. For both of these we would advise either Screwgates or Autolockers. |
You can also optionally use a Foot Ascender such as the Petzl Pantin or the CT Quick Step.
