Oval

The Beal O'Smith is a steel symmetrical oval karabiner that's ideal for using and working with pulleys. The oval shape is perfect for using with pulleys as it ensures that the pulley sits perfectly square and is equalised for balance. Each carabiner has an individual number that guarantees its traceability.

Reword this in a better way: The ISC Oval Keylock (KL311) combines the specifications of an Oval with that of a ‘D’ shape Karabiner. True Ovals are not capable of achieving high breaking loads, as their symmetrical shape shares the load between the spine and the gate of the Karabiner. The weakest part of any Karabiner is the gate and so wherever possible, designers will try to bias the load toward the spine of the Karabiner. This is why ‘D’ shape Karabiners (typically) give the highest breaking loads.

The Oxan is Petzl's high quality steel oval karabiner with a keylock gate closure, this is the steel karabiner of choice for demanding conditions. Petzl’s Keylock means less snagging, while the red indicator on the screw lock provides a visual warning if the gate is not locked.

The DMM 10mm Oval is a steel carabiner that's perfect for use with pulleys. The steel construction is lighter in weight than some of the alternatives, but it still delivers great levels of strength. Compact, strong and hard wearing, yet incredibly versatile in application. The oval shape centralises loaded connectors, slings, pulleys etc. minimising the unnerving jumping of equipment associated with D shaped connectors.

The Maillon Rapide Standard was developed on the principle of a chain link fitted with manual nut opening. This shape reflects the spirit of Maillon Rapide quick links connectors.

The Maillon Rapide Long Opening is a long oval shaped Maillon Rapide, the gate being longer than the standard. Available in galvanised or stainless steel, and in a number of different sizes (see drop down menu). These are ideal for rigging ropes in any situation where they will not be in view during use as they are much less likely than a karabiner to open accidentally. The downside is that they are slightly slower to use than a screw gate karabiner.

The ISC Oval Karabiner has a hooked nose as standard.

The Maillon Rapide Long Opening Twist is an 8mm galvanised quick link karabiner with a 90° twist. This allows for smoother orientation of any part.

Maillon Rapides have a working load limit that is a fifth of the breaking load of the maillon (as stated by the manufacturer) and will become damaged and distorted if they are used above this load limit. Some are certified as PPE (to protect falls from height) and some are not. If you are unsure of which is which, either ask us, or have a look at your maillon which will be marked with "PPE" if it is and "CE" if it is not. CE maillons conform to Maillon Rapide's standards but are not certified as PPE.

The Foin 10mm Oval is a true oval karabiner in 10mm steel, rated to 22kn. It is ideal for use with pulleys in all except the highest loading situations. This oval connector allows it to be used with the full range of pulleys, as well as all the other standard uses for a karabiner.
