Our ladders from Lyon Equipment come in a range of lengths and rung spacings.
These ladders are lightweight, strong and roll up to be easily stored or carried. The smaller rung spacing is good for novice, or out of practise cavers as the smaller steps make the ladder less tiring to climb. It also works really well if you're on a constricted pitch (you'll be more likely to be able to get your leg up to the next rung!) The wider rung spacing means that the ladder is lighter for the same length. Great for a long walk in!
If you're going down a ladder, you'll also need a lifeline. This should always be rigged to a different point than the ladder. The wire eye belay is ideal for this, especially where bolts are sparse or dodgy.
If you're going to rig a ladder to a single bolt, using a spreader is essential. It will lessen the angle at which the ladder sides join the bolt, and reduce the force on the ladder and the bolt.
