This ultra-durable construction and super compact design are ideal for both daily snow study and fast avalanche response. The unique handle that can be set up in two configurations for digging test pits or rapid snow removal. The large blade moves lots of snow quickly, and a flat-bottom profile helps you get a good clean face on your pit wall. An extendable shaft and large D handle increase comfort for long days in the field involving multiple pits and speeds up digging time during an emergency.
With a shorter length ideal for lightweight tours, avalanche rescue practice and terrain with shallow snowpacks, the Black Diamond Quickdraw Probe 240 features a durable 6-section aluminum construction and a stainless steel cable. The Pro 240’s ferrules make for increased durability and quick alignment, while the integrated stuff sack provides fast, one-pull deployment in emergency situations.
Ultra-light pulley / rope clamp (only 80 g!) designed for work, rope climbing maneuvers, rescue and self-rescue situations.
The Spoc is an ultralight progress capture pulley which is ideal for small hauling, crevasse rescue, and emergency ascending. At only 60 g you'll hardly notice this tiny bit of kit, but makes setting up rope systems easy and more efficient. The pulley itself rests on ball bearings, giving up to 92% efficiency, and fits from 7 mm to 11 mm rope giving you a diverse device for any ropes you might be carrying.
The Petzl Crevasse Rescue Kit is a definite essential piece of kit for alpine climbing, mountaineering, glacial travel (whether on foot or ski) for training courses. This kit allows for rapid deployment and use in rescues where someone falls in a crevasse.
At 85g this progress capture pulley is perfect to keep on your harness for emergency use. Originally designed for crevasse rescue in assisted and z hoists we also feel that it is light enough that it could live on the back of your harness year round for general climbing rescue being much more efficient and smoother to use than a prussik loop.
The Oscillante weighs next to nothing at just 42g. The Oscillante can be used in crevasse rescue systems or improvised hauling systems and quickly and easily installs due to its swinging side plates. The nylon sheave and aluminum side plates give an excellent strength to weight ratio.
The Spatha clippable knife is designed to accompany the climber on every outing. The profile of the blade allows easy cutting of ropes and cordage. It has a carabiner hole for attaching the knife to the harness. It is easy to manipulate with its textured wheel, even when wearing gloves, and can be locked in the open position.
The Petzl Tibloc is an ultra-lightweight ascender can be used to construct hauling systems or as a Prusik pulley replacement in self-rescue situations. Use the Tibloc with the Ultralegere pulley for a lightweight emergency hauling kit. To work well the original Tibloc should be used with a round bar karabiner. Whilst the new version with the plastic easy release mechanism will work with most karabiners but we like the Petzl Attache best.
The Piranha Alpine Knife is a brilliant yet compact accessory knife weighing in at just 20g with a tough stainless steel serated locking blade. Easily opened and closed with one hand. Safety mechanism keeps knife locked shut on carabiner to reduce risk of involuntary opening. Doubles as a bottle opener for use at the end of a hard day.
Built with a stainless steel cam, the Ropeman 2 works with a wide range of rope diameters and has become ‘standard issue’ for many mountaineering and crag activities.
