The Boreal G1 Expe has an outer gaiter that has a soft elasticated cuff with both zip and Velcro closures for failsafe reliability, protection and ease of donning. The lower portion of the gaiter is insulated with encapsulated layers of triple Thinsulate™ and polyethylene and is reinforced with an extremely rip resistant material in the high wear zones. A new synthetic rand material has been used which is lighter and warmer than rubber and won’t perish in the high U.V light conditions found at high altitude.
The outer surface of the mid boot in constructed from lightweight synthetic textiles and lined with a tough and waterproof/breathable Cordura reinforced laminate. Sandwiched between is a 6mm layer of EVA foam for excellent thermal insulation. Our new ‘Tanka’ lace closure system is simple, secure and easy to manage while wearing gloves.
The inner bootie is made from a very lightweight and extremely warm triple layer laminate material comprising of an outer polyurethane layer, heat reflecting aluminum film and an inner layer of insulating EVA foam. Triple Thinsulate™ layers fully surround the foot providing yet more insulation with no cold spots and a fully waterproof breathable Boreal Dry-Line® lining guarantees to keep your feet dry. The ‘Tanka’ and Velcro closure is easy to use and is adjustable around the instep area for a custom fit.
The ultra lightweight yet rigid carbon fiber composite midsole provides a considerable weight saving with great support for sustained climbing whilst the lightweight Vibram Betulla sole unit has dual density crampon attachment lugs, hard at the back for a positive crampon fit and soft at the front which provides welcome vibration absorption when front pointing on hard ice.
The boot in it's completeness is very light at 2610g (size 7). Please note we only carry a few sizes of these in stock but are happy to get any sizes in for you to try on but they and can take up to 2 weeks to have them delivered from Spain. Fit and sizing: The Boreal last is quite wide at the forefoot; most people find that it is wider than La Sportiva models for example. In terms of sizing it is recommended that a UK size 1.5 up from you normal walking boot size is a good starting point. This is because of the ample amounts of insulation in the design, thicker socks are the norm and it is imperative that there is ample wriggle room for toes at alll times and room for slight foot edema due to high altitude.
