The core down clothing area for many serious end users is sat firmly around 175 to 200g of good quality down fill and until a few years ago jackets such as the Rab Neutrino Endurance set the benchmark. Crux has once again just raised the bar through the ceiling. Using 915 US fill power Polish goose down that's ethically sourced and cleaned, the Pyro's loft is immense making it warmer than many jackets with much greater amounts of down in them. This huge lofting is enabled by the use of box-wall construction and super light 100% nylon face fabrics both inside and outside. Externally it has a 1000mm hydrostatic head that will keep moisture out helping to keep your down lofted to it's maximum (note that the seams aren't taped), remember if water gets into your clothing it will conduct your heat away whether your down is treated or not.
The hood is lovely and soft and fits superbly. It has a wired mini peak and enough capacity to go over a helmet when needed. Other features include 2 external zipped pockets and 1 internal chest pocket. The full-length zip is a double ended for use with a harness and as a belay parka.
Choose the Crux Pyro for keeping you warm in UK winter mountains, on winter belays, Alpine winters or for cold days at the Rugby.
Overhauled for Spring 2019 this box wall down jacket has a helmet accepting hood with 180g of 915 US fill power down that puts crux on top of the pile of similar jackets and is a joy to wear. With a water-repellant outer fabric and weighing 495g it's a cracker.
