The Crux Torpedo 900 Expedition Sleeping Bag has been developed for Himalayan climbing over 7000 metres and is also suitable for Alpine-style routes on 8000m+ peaks. Filled with extremely high quality 850 cu.in. (EU rating) Polish down, and protected with a waterproof shell, the 900 can also be used in open bivouacs or single-skin tents.
Only down is able to give the warmth for weight and pack size required for such demanding situations. The Crux Torpedo 900 uses the best down available, 850 fill power Polish goose down (it's ethically sourced too) and has a comfort rating of -8C and lower limit of -18C (EN13537).
Whilst the waterproof 2-layered eVent outer isn't the lightest or most compact fabric going it is durably waterproof, meaning that both yourself and the down won't get wet on snowy and damp bivvies. You also won't need the extra weight and bulk of a bivvy bag for snow holing and cold weather camping.
The breathability of the shell helps with internal moisture management meaning that your down won't freeze or get bulky and heavy. Each baffle is laminated directly to the eVent outer, unlike other waterproof sleeping bags where a waterproof outer is stitched over an existing bag, and thus the Torpedo range saves loads of extra weight. The zip is a highly water resistant Riri Aquazip which uses diving suit technology to keep the zip as robust and watertight, yet light and easy to use as possible.
The medium sized bag has 900g of down, an overall weight of 1500g and 188cm internal length. All in all, this is a fantastic bag for mountaineers operating up to 7,500m during the summer or for fast and light 8,000m peak dashes. It is equally suited to winter ascents in the Andes, Caucasus and lower Himalayan peaks.
