Here at Up and Under in Cardiff we've been fitting rucksacks to customers backs for over 40 years. All of our staff are fully trained to get you the right pack not only for your activities, size requirements and features but we will get you the best fit for your specific physique.
As a leading rucksack fitter we have been recognized by Deuter as providing such a great range and quality of service to be one of only a limited amount of Deuter Fit Centre's in the UK. Ally, Jim and David know their range intimately, their various fit options, back systems and what is likely to suit you. Equally our range of walking, trekking and backpacking packs from Lightwave, Lowe Alpine, Mammut, Montane and Vango provide different fit options again with a choice of close to the back, highly vented, fixed length and adjustable back systems will provide excellent comparisons from which to make your choice.
In terms of climbing packs and expedition rucksacks we again look towards Deuter, this time supported very ably by Black Diamond, Blue Ice, Crux, Exped, Mammut, Rab and Salewa.
Fitting of back systems takes into account your torso length and shape, we look at the fit around your hips, lumbar, curvature of your back, how the packs harness yokes across your shoulders and how the straps fit to your chest and allow comfortable freedom of movement. Correct fit is required to ensure a comfortable, stable carry that is not going to stress or fatigue you un-neccessarily.
As well as trained staff and a huge range of fit types we have a variety of rucksack filling weights in order to recreate a true in use feel that will enable you to decide which pack works best for you and can even encouarge a change of ideas regarding how much you are prepared/able to carry. We can also help you understand how loading/packing your rucksack in different manners can make a huge difference to how your pack carries.
We also have a selection of hydration bladders, rucksack liners, rucksack covers, travel bags, expedition holdalls and advice that will help you make your carry even more palatable.
Child Carrier Fittings
We take the same care with the fitting of child carriers and papooses to parents backs as any rucksack, in fact getting the carry right is almost more important as a child weight sits much higher up and is more mobile. Equally we offer a choice of brands including Little Life and Deuter to give a safe, comfortable journey for your child as well. Our staff include parents who have carried their children around the hills in these great bits of kit on many occassions and who can provide plenty of useful tips and advice.
