This guide has stood the test of time very well so this is a reprint (2022) with minor updates and corrections. It is not a new edition so don’t rush out and buy one if you already have it. The title has been changed to Outer Hebrides Sea Kayaking, this is just to make it clear that it is a sea kayaking guide.

The Werner Ikelos 2 Piece Straight Shaft is a high specification sea kayak paddle that features a full carbon construction. The carbon fibre blades are sandwiched around a foam core, which makes them lightweight and buoyant, whilst the carbon shaft is highly adjustable and able to split into two separate pieces. The Werner Smart View ferrule system also allows you to switch the lead paddling hand from right to left and alter the angle of feather in 15 degree increments up to 60 degrees.

The Werner Ikelos 2 Piece Bent Shaft is a carbon sea kayak paddle that's perfect for longer kayaking trips. It has a very high specification of construction and incorporates a two piece bent-paddle shaft and carbon foam cored blades. The shaft also has the ability to change the angle of feather to suit the prevailing winds.

The Werner Shuna Carbon is a high angle kayak paddle that's ideal for sea kayaking trips. It features multi-layered carbon blades which are very stiff for great levels of power. The blades fall into the Werner "mid-size" category. The shaft is a blended mix of glass fibre and carbon and features the Werner smart view kayak paddle joint. The Palm Recessed deck fitting is supplied in a packet of four units. Each unit comprises three holes, one is vertical and this is for securing to the kayak, the second two holes are horizontal and are for running kayak deck lines through. The Valley Sea Kayaks Skeg blade is a great option to consider when replacing a broken skeg on your existing sea kayak. It is particularly well suited to Valley Sea Kayaks, but it may fit other brands too. It is made from a 7mm thick piece of plastic, which has a securing hook on the end, a screw and hole in the mid-section for securing it to the sea kayak skeg cable.
