Palm Equipment has designed the Nevis PFD over a 3 year period, it has seen many samples to get it to what you now see on the shelves. This is one of the best whitewater kayaking pfd options available.
The Palm Nevis PFD has been designed around the delta fit adjustment system, it also features an over the head design and incorporates the new piggyback chest harness system. The delta fit system simply reduces pressure on the abdomen and grips more with the ribs. This enables you to breathe more efficiently and also gives you greater mobility. The over the head design is easy to get on and off, once on the paddlers torso there are 3 points of adjustment. The delta fit straps on the sides, the adjustable shoulder straps and finally the one-sided pull of the piggyback chest harness. Once it is all adjusted, you will achieve the snug and secure fit. On the inside of the front panel there are two anti slip grip strips, these also help to keep the PFD securely on the torso.
One of the essential elements of whitewater kayaking is having the ability to carry the kayak rescue gear you may need. With this in mind, Palm Equipment have managed to get 5 pockets into this design. Yes!!... 5 pockets! The main pocket is on the chest, it is easy to access by a dual sided zipper. It features a stiffened flap that will fold open and internally there are a few dividers. It also has a sewn in daisy chain to keep things organised. The second pocket is also located on the front chest, this is just below the main pocket, its easy to access via a popper and is perfect for a kayak rescue knife. There is then a large kangaroo style set of hand warmer pockets. This pocket is accessed via zip openings on each side of the PFD. The final two pockets are located internally, they are both secured by Velcro and the rear one if perfect for a hydration system.
The Nevis also features a new design PFD chest harness. This is easily adjusted by a single buckle on the right hand side of the chest, the main front buckle is simply threaded to suit the type of rescue and will control the required friction levels. Additionally there are also two D rings, these are ideal for securing a cows tail and kayaking karabiner if required. For after dark kayaking trips, there is also plenty of reflective detailing over the shoulders. As shown in the images above, you can see how effective it is when exposed to a bright light.
