Petzl Simple
As the name implies, the Petzl Simple is an easy-to-use caving descender. It can be used with 8.5 to 11 mm diameter low stretch kern-mantle ropes. Reduced bulk and low weight simplify progression in narrow passages. The pulleys can be rotated or replaced to prolong the duration of use over time.
Petzl Stop
The Petzl Stop is a popular choice of descender, thanks to it being easy to use and having the backup of the automatic brake (remember to lock it off if you've stopped though!). It can also be used instead of a chest jammer in an emergency on short pitches. The downside is that it can get a bit warm on long descents of a dry rope (think Alum pot North West) so take a squeezy bottle of water with you!
Petzl Freino Z
The Petzl Freino Z is a karabiner with a built-in friction spur for improved descent control, especially with heavy loads and rescue scenarios. Compatible with Petzl’s self-braking descenders (I’D S, I’D L, I’D Evac, and Rig), it allows rope redirection for added friction without unclipping. Featuring a Triact-Lock automatic locking system and a keylock nose for snag-free handling, it ensures safe and efficient use. Lightweight and versatile, it’s ideal for both climbing and professional rescue applications.
Petzl OK Oval
The Petzl OK Oval has been designed for use with pulleys, but is also very useful as a general purpose karabiner at belays and for caving cow-tails. It has an oval shape that allows optimal loading of devices with a wide cross-section, such as pulleys, rope clamps and mobile fall arresters. This lightweight karabiner is made of aluminium and it is available in three different locking systems.
Petzl Omni
The Petzl Omni fills a niche market for semi-circular, alloy karabiners. They are primarily used for securing harnesses that use two attachment points that must be connected (such as the Petzl Super Avanti) or where there is likely to be a 3-way load. This multi-directional karabiner is available in two locking systems, the automatic Triact-Lock and the manual Screw-Lock.
Raumer Handy
The Raumer Handy allows the user to vary the descent simply by moving the rope into the narrow section of the karabiner, eliminating almost all downwards force. It is equipped with a stainless steel twisted ring which can be clipped into the semi-circular maillon on a harness, this ring makes this karabiner suitable for all speeds of descent on any type of rope.
