The Astral Indus PFD, a high performance, high specification PFD that is well suited for extreme whitewater kayaking. It is rich with numerous notable features, which ensure the best levels of performance, protection and most importantly safety. The Indus PFD has a side entry design, that also partially goes over the head. This is based on the right-hand side of the PFD when on the torso. The closure system secures by three buckles; the dual tension chest harness adds further safety and support. The front of the Indus PFD features a large pocket. This offers great levels of storage for kayak safety gear. There is an additional pocket on the front of this, which is ideal for a kayak rescue knife. There are then an additional two smaller pockets on each side of the PFD for storage for smaller items.

Astral Designs have crafted the Indus PFD to feature a partial over head / side entry desgn. This makes it exceptionally easy to get on and off, even when wearing a kayaking drysuit. The entry system is on the right hand side of the PFD, whilst being worn. The Indus PFD is based around the same foam tectonics platform as featured on the GreenJacket PFD. The foam tectonics platform incorporates a two layer design, where the innner foam platform connects perfectly with the torso. There are then two straps, that link the outer layer to the waist belt. This does two important things. Firstly it enasures that the outer panel, which comes up over the chest has a greater range of movement. This enhances the flex and best levels of freedom whilst paddling. Secondly it also enables the paddlers to lengthen or shorten the front panel for the perfect fit.

As for the storage options. The Indus PFD has multiple pockets. The main pocket on the chest is easy to access via a zip. This offers plenty of space for a kayak safety tape etc. There is then a further pocket on the front of this which is ideal for a rescue knife. Two further pockets are located on each side of the waist belt. Whilst the final pocket is located between the two layers of foam. This is perfect for a flatter style throwbag, but it is also a great option for warming up your hands on a cold day!
