The Opinel traditional range or as some people call it the classic originals range comes with two blade options. The most popular is this version, the Opinel Carbon Steel while the alternative option comes with the Stainless Steel blade. Opinel designed these great knives many years ago in the Savoie region of France. The traditional range comes in a variety of sizes that start at Opinel No 2 and then goes up to Opinel No 12, however the most popular size is the Opinel No 8. The Opinel No 6 and all sizes above all feature the Virobloc safety ring. This is a two part stainless steel mechanism that ensures the blade can be locked closed for saftey during transport and locked open whilst in use. The Carbon steel blade gives great performance due to the hardness of the steel This in turn equates to quality cutting and also the ability to regrind the blade and sharpen it. However the carbon steel does require regular maintenance to get the best life from it. Firstly you would want to keep the knife away from damp conditions, if it did get damp you woudl then want to wipe it dry and then regrease it on a regular basis.
